Uncle Pasha's Dacha

On the Volga, near the city of Staritsa,
Tver region,
between Moscow & St. Petersburg.

Enjoy horse riding? Four gentle home-raised horses and endless trails through woods and hills are waiting for you.

Horse riding lessons can be arranged.

Unspoiled and sparsely populated area.

Inflatable boats available.

Explore miles of catacombs.

Russian conversation practice with true down-to-earth natives.

..And much more..

      Suggested contributions:
$40 (1000 roubles) a day for basic accommodation, food, and

unlimited unaccompanied horse rides*.

 Ample opportunities for hands-on participation.

Ride just about anywhere. No barbed wire fences. "No trespassing" signs are still unknown in this part of the world. If nothing of value grows in the field, you are welcomed to ride across. No time limits. Enjoy your rides within the physical capacity of well-fed and conditioned animals. Many versts of fields and trails through communal land - not something normally found in civilized countries..

Riding lessons are available. They may even be thrown in as a free extra bonus. And yes, I speak semi-decent English that you'll easily understand unless you are from Texas or Australia, or are one of these pretentious British eh, characters.  English teachers too, I find, have trouble with my speech manner. As I do with their thought pattern.  Riding lessons

Car ride from Moscow to Staritsa can be arranged. Car upkeep contribution for the 250 km ride from Moscow to Staritsa: $70-100. Staritsa is accessible by bus from Moscow and almost direct train from St. Petersburg.

Disclaimers. Please don't expect 5-star conditions and treatment from an operation that wants $30 for shelter, access to food, and nearly unlimited riding. Please understand that I have no liability insurance and that you are using my facilities privately, unofficially, at your own risk. More disclaimers here ==>>

Your financial contribution. 1000 roubles (=$40US as of May 2007) covers everything "as is". Chop your own wood. Bring horses from the pasture and groom them yourself. Don't complain if they don't cooperate. Look after yourself in the kitchen. Leave the place not messier than you found it. 1500 roubles (=$60) makes you a VIP client. You are not expected to do anything but enjoy. Assistance with horses and riding lessons included. No cooking, no washing dishes, and do take a look at my menu. Even booze is included! I am able to give two hours of my undivided attention to each VIP guest, so if there is a group of 4 you can expect me to slave for you pretty much the whole day!

*This includes no service. The roof over your head is there. Firewood is outside, and please DO NOT CHOP IT IN THE HOUSE. Horses are out there in the field, and if they walk away it is your problem, not mine. You will always find potatoes, oatmeal, bread and a few other such staples in the kitchen but don't expect somebody will cook and do dishes for you. If you need more, consider VIP service described at the Russian version of this site. $40 or 1000 roubles are your contribution to the cost of feeding animals, ongoing repairs to the house, and generally keeping the place afloat. My time and attention are NOT included. IF YOU NEED MORE CONSIDER REQUESTING VIP SERVICE THAT INCLUDES PREPARED MEALS, RIDING LESSONS, SAUNA, LAUNDRY ETC. ETC.  PRESENTLY THE VIP RATE IS 1500 ROUBLES ($60) PER DAY AND MAKES YOU ENTITLED TO TWO HOURS OF MY UNDIVIDED ATTENTION THAT MATERIALIZED INTO RIDING LESSONS, PREPARED MEALS, OR WHATEVER YOU WANT. Poor travellers consider off-season specials that can get as low as  $150/week.
