Paul Voytinsky
(Uncle Pasha)

Moscow, March 17 2011.

I've had my fill of Russian village life. Having admitted my failure not only in improving my motherland's countryside but even at carving a comfortable niche for myself in the Upper Volga boonies, I've transferred the project, along with a bunch of advice which I hope will help him from prematurely turning into a grumpy old man I've become, to the capable hands of Dimitry (Dima), my assistant of many years. Alla-the-environmental-law-expert, who speaks English, is looking after travellers from afar that you presumably are. Her daughter Sophie administers the English version of the site although her only noticeable achievement so far is the new "Uncle Pasha's" sign in WordArt. If my presence in Staritsa is required, I can make it there almost any time before the end of May 2011. After that I'm leaving the cruel world by relocating myself to the Kandalaksha Nature Reserve on the White Sea, at the very edge of the empire, where my place is life will be feeding mosquitoes and trying to avoid assisting Alexandra in counting Eider eggs and excrements.

Pasha

So Uncle Pasha left us, but has left to us the dacha and the horses.

As we try to replace Uncle Pasha:

Dima

Dima is looking after Pasha's dacha and is responsible for all the ugliness, reigning in the dacha. He's been working with Pasha for years and thoroughly knows the scene. He is good driver and can meet you in Tver or Staritsa, if you ask him before. Also he picked up a lot of food ideas from Pasha and is able to cook in his basic style. Dima was born and lives in Staritsa. He doesn’t speak English and don’t want to study it.

Alla

Alla is Uncle Pasha’s English student. She wants to have English-speaking practice, so she helps Dima to look after English-speaking visitors of the dacha, when she has a time for it.

She has friends in many towns and villages in Russia and NIC. So she can assist you in your travel or help to organize it. Especially if you like wild nature and unusual places. Her travels you can see here. She lives in Lipetsk and Moscow. In this summer she is going to be in St-Petersburg,Belorussia (towns, villages, dachas, festival), GB. Let's join her journeys.

Who else?

Romashka

Born '98, no particular breed. Pasha bought her in 2000 from local Gypsies for $1/kg for textbook-perfect conformation and gait. After years of faultless performance it seemed appropriate to dub her a noble Anglo-Aboriginal. Perfect for beginners, children, or those who do not seek adventures. Remarkable extended trot despite short legs, and she carries her load carefully.

Moonie

Suitable for sleeping and drinking

Romashka's daughter, born in April 2001. Fathered by a draft horse from the nearby kolkhoz. Grew into something fat and clumsy. Positively enjoys breaking through things. Steps on toes. Doesn't buck, doesn't kick, does not bite but learned getting rid of riders by non-aggressive methods.

Lyagushka

Age one-something. Getting oats in the back of the car. Able to squeeze into tight places. Without breaking things, unlike her half-sister Moonie.

Born beginning of April 2003.

A small active animal. Fascinated with speed and jumping.

Aggressive. May kick to kill. Hates crowds, not at all a rental hag.

Very regular and fast trot.

Requires a good rider WITH VERY SOFT HANDS.
