Links to informative sites on horses and horse riding in Russia, with at least some English content

July 2005. I'm in the process of doing a major update of this page. Please bear with me.

[DEAD LINK] http://www.filly.nm.ru/ - Ran into this site when looking for a way to make the animal lie down for the child or a cripple (like me with my February to April sciatica) to get on. The site is largely dedicated to "soft" methods of training horses, which is very much needed in this land of traditionally tough and brutal land. Delighted common sense made is making it here.

www.equestrian.ru - A horse portal with lots of info on sports events. Includes an active forum on Russian horses, riding etc. IN ENGLISH

http://www.equiros.ru/defaulteng.stm - A major show of horses. A good place to buy tack. Held every year in August, at the Sokolniki part, east side of Moscow. This year is is August 22 to 29.

There've been a few enquiries about "Cossack" saddles [photo]. Yes, for a small contribution towards equipment upgrade I will be able to buy one for you.

[DEAD LINK] www.museum.horses.ru  A collection of 19th century art. Was there myself, and would have liked it immensely if not for the company of Akhal-Teke fans who utilized me as an interpreter. (Huge thanks to them for supplying us with a bunch of much needed equipment, oil lamps among them.)

[DEAD] www.koni.spb.ru  A magazine-like site with emphasis on St. Petersburg and area. Large, professionally done but somewhat "stiff".

http://suslovfarm.com/english-page.htm  A family-run horse riding and breeding operation in the Tula region, 200km (150 miles) south of Moscow.

Attractions in and around Tula: Leo Tolstoy's Estate and Optina Pustyn Monastery, one of the centers of Russian religious life. The Space Travel Museum is in Kaluga, which is not far either. Tula is on your way if you travel from Moscow to Kiev and on, towards Odessa or Chisinau, Moldova.

[DEAD ] www.losharik.ru One of the better sites information-wise. Also I want to remark on special effects that do not annoy, which is extremely rare.

[DEAD ] http://www.belaya-loshad.ru/  Seems to be something big and official and thoroughly commercial near Moscow. "Welcome to the enticing world of horse riding" and "become friends with this intelligent, sensitive and beautiful animal" exemplify the language they use, and the damage modern American market-ese does to what's left of proper Russian.

[DEAD] http://rene-pi.chat.ru/ - Theme horse trips in Suzdal, the centerpiece of the Golden Ring route. Long trips using draft horses of Vladimir variety.

http://www.russian-horses.ru/en/index.html - Russian horses for sale.

http://www.horses.ru/troika/oros_main.htm - A horse breeding, selling, and competitive riding association based in the Sokolniki part of Moscow.

Note their proposal on endurance riding - the only sort where I stand a chance not be be last with my Romashka.

http://www.equiworld.net - Excellent articles on specifically Russian breeds. Note the article on Don, an all-purpose survivor horse here.

http://www.akhal-teke.ru/main.html -  A comprehensive resource on the Akhal-Teke breed of horses. Stud books, breeding operations in Russia, horses for sale etc.

Has anybody had any PRACTICAL dealings with The Akhal-Teke World ? A request to remove the link received from a trusted source that, regretfully, does not want his name mentioned. Thus my question. Please share information and impressions.

http://www.akhalteke.org/  - A California-based Akhal-Teke site. Since Akhal-Tekes are a Russian breed I decided to list this site here.

http://www.horse.spb.su/title_e.htm - A St. Petersburg site on horses, active, in English.

http://www.maakcenter.org/ENG/news.html - International Association of Akhal-Teke Breeders (MAAK). Based in the Ryazan region next "oblast" south-east from Moscow.

http://www.akhalt-service.ru/ - An Akhal-Teke breeding operation south of the Moscow region.

The menu is in English so I'm listing their site in hope they will soon add some English content.

http://www.horseridingmoscow.da.ru  - A riding establishment in Moscow, near M. Rechnoy Vokzal. Supposed to have an English-speaking riding instructor. [WHERE IS THE ENGLISH PAGE?]

http://www.infoservices.com/moscow/466.htm -  A horse page from Moscow's Travellers Yellow pages.

http://www.horses.ru/ - An overview of Russian horse breeds, with more links to Russian horse resources.
