Despite its rich history, present-day Tver is largely a neglected factory town.

Tver is one of the leading suppliers of prostitutes and "Russian brides".  Don't recall figures but Tver is regularly mentioned as a community with one of the highest rates of STD in Russia.

The drug of choice among the locals is heroin, and heroin addicts will apparently do just about anything to get their next doze. Heard a few stories of people getting robbed by junkies in the middle of the day.

Standard touristy warnings like
